It wouldn't be particularly hard to write a plugin to do this sort of<br>
thing though. Pluginception has all the code you'll need for the basic<br>
idea of it. Just rejigger it to make the theme files and directories<br>
instead. Might be worth adding in a function to copy some existing<br>
templates over to the child too.<br>
