This is a good example of why I wanted to bring it up for discussion: are archive pages (category index, tag index, primarily) usually all that different from the main blog posts index, such that the page links would clutter the former, but not the latter?<div>

Ditto. In some themes, it creates visual clutter in any archive page. And I have to admit, I've always wondered why there should be multi-page links when you're also offering a "read more" link. Or is it only me who think that smacks of redundancy?<br>
