Well, let's make this simpler: This decision is above the pay-grade of the Theme Review Team.<div><br></div><div>If CC-BY 3.0 is GPL-compatible, that determination is going to have to come from Matt Mullenweg, or someone who can make that determination on his behalf. Should that happen, we'll adjust our license requirements accordingly. I don't think we, as a group, have a preference one way or another; we simply want to ensure that Theme licenses adhere to the requirements as we understand them.</div>
<div><br></div><div>On a side note: if CC-BY 3.0 is deemed to be GPL-compatible, we will have to scrutinize the attribution requirement on a per-Theme basis. Almost every instance of a CC-BY-licensed WordPress Theme that I have seen has mis-applied the attribution requirement, by requiring an arbitrary, public-facing link.</div>
