Hello all,
I may be late into the Featured Themes discussion.
What if we use variables to determine Featured Themes?
These variables are
1. star ratings (by popular)
2. work ratings (by function)

Random may be fair for all WordPress themer (designers or developers), but those variables will add values to Featured Themes and WordPress itself.
Otto -

A couple of questions you can hopefully answer and/or point the Theme Review
Team in the right direction.

1. Is there a way to find out all of the currently "Featured" themes?
Short of making a list; "un-sticking" them; and, seeing what still shows up.
I have not seen anything except the "Featured" search criteria on the
"Install Themes" tab.
2. As per this comment:
http://edwardcaissie.com/2010/09/featured-themes/comment-page-1/#comment-353and
my reply; would it be possible to have randomly picked theme(s) posted
to the Featured page for x amount of days? Not sure what would work best, or
if it's possible ... I'll leave that to your code creativity.

Cais.

PS: To the mailing list in general: feel free to leave comments on the post,
too. The more input the better. EAC
I'm not sure I understand the question. The Featured Themes are all
the themes listed under Featured Themes on
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/.

Perhaps you may have been told it was choosing some random set of the
featured themes to be displayed there. If that's the case, then I
understand... but you have been misinformed. That's it. That's all of
them. There are no more. It displays all the sticky themes there.
We can change it to display some kind of random selection instead, if
desired. Currently it just displays them all.
@Otto - Ian Stewart suggested asking you questions that might relate to the
Featured Themes ... I counted 15, just didn't know if that was all or if
that was all that were shown at one time as 15 is the number of themes shown
per page by default anywhere else.

As to the random idea, perhaps I'm not explaining it clearly enough.

Let's start with the above being a static quantity, that is _only_ 15 themes
are shown on the Featured Theme page, not sure what would happen if say 20
themes were set to be "sticky" ... and I would prefer not to test it out.

Can a portion of those themes, perhaps the last one to three themes be
randomly picked? Leave the the first set of themes as manually set to
"stick" to the front page, while the second set are randomly picked from the
repository and automatically set to "stick" ... or is this an all or nothing
affair which if that is the case we can keep going forward with the manual
method.

Hopefully that is a little more clearer than mud.

Cais.

PS: What is the difference in the "sticky" links ... one reads "Stick Topic"
the other reads "to front"? The "to front" link has the extra parameter
&super=1 in it. EAC
Yeah, I didn't think of that. I'll double check. The code doesn't
specify a number, so I assumed that was all of them. Looking closely
at it, I can see that it's doing a BB_Query without specifying a
number, so it may only be displaying the first 15.
I can make it do anything at all, including lounge singing, but having
three random themes show up in the featured list does strike me as
rather strange.
Short answer: Use Stick To Front to make a theme featured.
