[theme-reviewers] Is there a pre theme upgrade hook?

Are their any hooks that can be used to display messages to a user when
they begin the theme upgrade process, but before the upgrade is installed?
I don't know of any, but I could be wrong.

If their were, a developer who was removing features to conform to the
guidelines, could warn the user that the next update could potential damage
the way their site displays content, unless they install a companion
plugin, before they actually do the update. That warning could of course
link to the companion plugin, and recommend they install the plugin first.

I'm just trying to think of ways to get users to deal with the issues these
kinds of changes cauce before updating and finding out that they just lost
important features the hard way...
