The entire internet, no ....  world full of widths and sizes and WordPress always chooses sizes and widths of their own designs, nothing can ever be uninformative with anything else.

I'd be fine with if the screenshot is not 600x450 then it can be 300x225 ... no other allowable sizes.
Leave it to the theme author to resize and crop accordingly, it's really not all that difficult to do.

    That would lead to a weird scaling factor, might not look as good.
    It'll work, but the image displayed is displayed at 300x225, not
    320x240.

    I'd stick to 600x450.
