[theme-reviewers] Process question

I have not submitted a theme to the directory myself, so I was just 
wondering how theme developers update the theme code when themes are in 
the review phase.  Are theme developers given immediate svn access, or 
do they have to do something else, like Email the files to an admin who 
updates them on svn before they have initial approval?  Will this 
process need to be revisited in any way if review is team-based?
