OK. Here's what I have done:

I checked out the 1.2 branch (using the WordPress-Ver-1_2-Branch tag)
and rollback all the changes made on that branch.

I tagged the before and after state so we can recover those changes.
Tags were Label-200410052330-mikelittle-1_2-rollback-pre and
Label-200410052330-mikelittle-1_2-rollback-post

I then copied the files from the 1.2.1 zip which were different from
the 1.2-mingus release (which I figured was what Matt based the 1.2.1
release on) straight over the top of my 1.2 branch.

After some minimal testing (more of which later) I have commited this
code into the 1.2 branch.

Testing: I ran up the new code (my 1.2 branch+changes) as a new
installation and spotted the following.

I cannot seem to log out once logged in. 
I also cannot update my profile after the first time.

I quickly ran up the code from the 1.2.1 zip and experienced exactly
the same problems.

I have run out of time (its 1:15am here) to investigate further, but
I'm pretty sure that there is too much 1.3 code in there. Though it
may be as simple as the COOKIEHASH versus $cookiehash difference I
spotted.
