[bbDev] Installation of this Forum

I've read some crazy stuff on this mailing list since I joined.  Ufuk is 
a phpbb expert yet he feels the software is too complex.  Ivan demands 
help in broken English, which may be perception rather than rudeness, 
difficult to say.

The thing is, I see a lot of newbie level questions which supports 
Sannamaria's point that bbpress is perhaps not the appropriate choice 
for some at this juncture.  It is barely documented and largely incomplete.

You are going to want to have a strong background in PHP and basic MySQL 
knowledge before attempting to use this software; at least for now. In 
due time it will be more developed and user friendly with actual 
documentation.

IMHO, the only real motivation to use phpbb over the vast sea of free 
forum software is to share the users table with your WordPress site. 
Simply sharing theme / styles.css doesn't really justify the selection 
because many other forums would integrate as well as bbPress.  It took 
some hacking to get the theme look to extend to my bbPress site, this 
didn't work "out of the box."

My advice: use bbPress if you want to share a users table with your 
WordPress site, you know PHP well, and you have SQL knowledge.

Otherwise, save yourself a headache and try something easier.

I've been going through the bbPress code quite extensively (mostly to 
get it to work, which I have done successfully) and have discovered 
several undocumented things that were obviously intentional by the 
developer but many users are unaware of.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a bbPress Wiki so we could contribute 
documentation?  The first contribution might be a good installation 
guide including basic hacks to address common configuration issues.
