 Just a note on topic.php - the "start" attribute is not easily replaced by
 CSS methods ( lack of support for CSS counters - http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-
 CSS2/generate.html#counters )

 We would have to drop back to transitional XHTML doctype to validate,
 which isn't worth the potential problems it could cause.

 For now topics.php will contain one validation error on that attribute.
