 This could allow plugin devs to make a lot of mess in themes.

 I'm not sure it's a good idea. I'd rather address the problems that we can
 identify as fixable, and add filters for them. I'm tempted to "wontfix"
 this ticket, and open new cases of filter/action requirements on a needs
 basis.
