Is the discussion happening elsewhere ?

The trac is 8-36 months late

There is still interest (well, at least from me) in BackPress, but hard to
maintain

I've been planning a shopping cart script based on backpress, in a
Wordpress "spirit" (the ecommerce plugins are mostly forced upon WP core)
for a few years.
